Google CSS News: What’s the Latest?

Ahead of Black Friday, we wanted to provide you with an update on the changes to the CSS scheme, and how these changes might affect you.

Customers have enjoyed a considerable rebate credited back to their Google Ads account, as well as a 20% reduction in CPC fees. This means that retailers can spend 20% less but still get the same amount of clicks – which is an ideal incentive, especially in Q4 when it’s every click for the taking.

Google recently announced that from November 1st, the rebate would be reduced to 5% on any spend over $10 per calendar month, up to a maximum rebate of $100,000.

The 20% discount on CPC won't be affected by these recent changes, so there’s still an opportunity to earn a significant rebate over the Black Friday/Cyber Weekend trading period, whilst still saving 20% on your CPC.

What else is new with CSS?

Previously, rebates were calculated on a rolling 30-day period. However, this has since been changed; rebates are now calculated per calendar month, from the 1st. Google has also announced a finite end to the CSS rebate scheme, which will cease on December 31st, 2018.

Again, this provides a huge opportunity for retailers to make the most of the rebate potential over the festive season, pre-Christmas and post-Christmas sales, earning rebates which will be credited back to the user’s Google Ads account in time for the New Year, giving their Shopping accounts a boost for the start of 2019!
